Online modules covering all basic elements involved in the correct care and management of horses and ponies
The Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) has launched a new online Horse Care & Welfare course. The online version of the course has been developed following the success of the equine outreach courses which have been run by the IHWT over a number of years in various parts of Ireland including Moyross in Co Limerick, and Darndale, & Finglas in Co Dublin.
The online version of the course makes it far more cost effective for the IHWT to deliver, it also makes the course content accessible to a far larger number of potential participants.

has put many young people through formal and non-formal training over that
course comprises of eight online modules covering all of the basic elements
involved in the correct care and management of horses and ponies:
Two practical modules provide an opportunity to
put the learning acquired in modules 1 - 8 above into practice.
The Online Horse Care & Welfare course is
hosted on the Charity’s Learner Management System (LMS) which allows easy
access from PCs, Laptops, Tablets and phones. The courses content is delivered through
blended learning using text, diagrams, videos and voiceover. A quiz after each
module provides assessment of participant progress and for overall group evaluation.

it is hoped that it will also act as stepping stone for young people
wishing to progress to a career in the equine industry.
The online course is available to be licensed to local authorities around the country, this may be particularly useful in areas where there are problems with wild or loose horses which are being tended to by locals. The online course can be delivered through local equine groups, community groups, and Garda outreach programmes and as mentioned above, covers all basic elements involved in the correct care and management of horses and ponies.
