Get the low-down from past graduates
The ITBA Next Generation Apprenticeship is a scheme that gives two people the opportunity to kick-start their career in the thoroughbred industry by offering three placements over the course of a year. I applied for the apprenticeship in the summer of 2013 after finishing my Equine Business degree in NUI Maynooth as it seemed like the ideal way to get a foot in the door of the industry.
After two rounds of interviews, which themselves proved an excellent learning experience, I was offered a place and started my first placement in the marketing department of Horse Racing Ireland. I also spent time working in Coolmore Stud and Naas Racecourse as part of the apprenticeship before being hired by Horse Racing Ireland at the end of the year.
My time on the ITBA Next Generation Apprenticeship has proved invaluable to my career and I would recommend it to anyone with a real passion for the industry that is determined to make their mark on it.
