This CPD page will provide details of upcoming courses or seminars as well as highlighting courses that may be of interest to groups within the industry such as the Certificate in Dual Career Development (Sport) in Griffith College which is specifically designed to address the needs of sports people in the area of professional development and transition management. The programme has been developed in consultation with the Irish Institute of Sport and is suitable for both current high performance athletes in preparation for their future and recently retired sports people and may be of particular interest to professional Jockeys who are planning for life after race riding, click the button below for more details.

  • Point-to-Point race riding skills course

     Delivered by leading amateur rider, Derek O'Connor, who has ridden over 1,300 p-to-p winners as well as the last two editions of the Goffs Land Rover bumper at the Punchestown festival. 

    This course is for any Qualified Rider who like to improve their technical and tactical riding skills, and to understand the importance of fitness and race-riding preparation. This course is has proven to be very popular and restricted to just 6 riders per course. Early registration is advised and you can register an interest for future courses if scheduled courses are full.

    This course is run over one day from 8:00am to 4:30pm and will include the following:

    - Students will ride 3 lots in total, 2 in RACE and 1 on the Curragh schooling grounds

    - Video review of two lots

    - A simulator training session

    - 1 fitness information and practical session

    - Lunch is also included

    The next Courses are scheduled for May 3rdMay 10th (both Wednesdays) and if there is sufficient demand, Saturday May 20th.
