Horse Racing is many things: a sport, an industry, a hobby, and a social outlet. The thoroughbred has always been close to our hearts in Ireland and in every corner of the country the evidence presents itself. It is why we are a powerhouse in terms of breeding, training, and educating equine and human champions. The best horses in the world are Irish, so too are the premier Trainers and Jockeys. It all comes back to a simple phrase, ‘Think thoroughbred, think Ireland’.

HRI set up a Careers and Racing Education (CARE) Department in 2015. It is part of HRI's strategic plan to be involved, along with all industry stakeholders, in the evolution of an education, learning and development strategy for the industry at large.

    Key initiatives include:

    • Provide strategic direction to industry education and training in Ireland to enable the industry to be fit for the future
    • Support initiatives that promote Ireland internationally as a world-class equine educational provider
    • Ensure our educational and training interventions in our industry are relevant, fit for purpose, future proof and nationally accessible through strategic partnerships at national level
    • Provide access to people working within the industry to tools to help them in their work i.e. information on career choices, vocational training, career coaching, 3rd level qualifications
    • Sponsor programmes that enable change and progression
